A Word About Aflatoxin Poisoning
in Commercial Dog Foods
This sad fact about the pet food industry has
been known for more than 20 years! This toxin is only
one of several potential contaminants found in pet foods. Aflatoxin is a mold that grows on peanuts (peanut hulls
are commonly used to formulate kibble) and other crops,
such as corn. When these crops are exposed to excessive moisture and impoper storage conditions, this deadly mold finds its opportunity to grow.
Simply put, the pet food industry is not held to the same level of standards
that regulate food processing plants in the human marketplace! Pet foods
have also been found to contain lethal amounts of bacteria and other toxins. Besides the potential to make your dog or cat sick, formulated pet foods
are NOT healthy diets. Despite all the advertising claims they make, these
processed diets are NOT made from wholesome foodstuffs, they are not fresh,
and they do not offer any natural selection or variety. Perhaps this knowledge
will motivate more pet owners to make better choices about what they feed
their pets. I have long advocated home cooking, grain-free raw frozen food diets and have cautioned my clients
not to feed low cost bags of kibble being sold in popular discount stores like Walmart and Costco.
